The Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) matched approximately 1,000 graduating medical students with residency programs during Match Week earlier this month, says Mona Signer, National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) executive director on NRMP’s website.
SOAP replaces the Scramble format to give more structure and transparency following the initial matching process. Following a record-breaking number of initial matches, 93% of programs with unfilled positions were placed in SOAP. Of those open positions, 91% filled during the SOAP process, according to Signer.
NRMP invites comments about SOAP, as well as suggestions for improvement for the 2013 matching season.
