Although the ACGME is shifting away from them in the next accreditation system, plenty of programs still need to remain focused on completing a thorough PIF for their next site visit. When your program is only a month or two away from the site visit, make sure to dedicate enough time to making a PIF your only priority.

A program director and program coordinator must schedule blocks of time (i.e. entire mornings, a couple Saturdays) to focus on producing a through PIF. Let residents and faculty know that you will be unavailable during these times. Provide alternative times to assist them.

Delegate duties for residents and faculty for these blocks of time to avoid interruption while you complete this vital form.

This week’s tip is from Program Information Form Made Simple by Jeri Whitten, C-TAGME, and Vicki Hamm.
