The ACGME Board of Directors is asking the ACGME to take an active role in spearheading an effort to bolster how professionalism—one of the six core competencies—is defined and enforced.

In a unanimous vote taken on February 7, the board directed the ACGME to review the current standards and recommend any necessary modifications to ensure expectations of professionalism are met. In an official notice posted on ACGME.org, the board holds program directors, DIOs, residents, and faculty members to “the highest degree of professional behavior.”
