Lack of preparation for ACGME site visits can whip institutions into a frenzied hurry.
Take a proactive approach to your institution’s PIF preparation. Consider it a living, breathing entity that needs regular attention and is always on-going. Program directors should start preparing the form at least one year prior to the scheduled site visit.
Keep your PIF handy on your computer and revise it during the annual program review. Make periodic updates to the PIF so you do not have to start one from scratch prior to the site visit. Document how programs are being enhanced and what corrections are being applied to previous citations.
Don’t hesitate to contact your GME office with any questions on information required in the PIF.
This week’s tip is from Insider’s Guide to the ACGME Site Visit, Second Edition by Kathryn Andolsek, MD, MPH and Shepard Cohen.
