Association of American Medical Colleges Chief Diversity Officer Marc Nivet, Ed.D sees diversity benefitting from some more diversity.

Measuring variables such as institutional climate, cultural competence and community needs responsiveness will help lead to better patient safety, quality improvement and attract top talent, according to his commentary in the December issue of Academic Medicine.

He explains how a shift in the paradigm can help medical institutions use "the rich diversity of human talents and aptitudes" in order to personalize evaluations in the industry. Such a shift goes beyond the scope of race and ethnic background. It stresses a "mental shift" towards quality health outcomes over an end goal.  To read more, click here.
