The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) recently released a statement regarding Congress’ Super Committee’s inability to reach an agreement on the current debt crisis by a Nov. 21 deadline.

"America’s medical schools and teaching hospitals support a balanced approach to deficit reduction," said AAMC President and CEO Darrell G. Kirch in the statement. He added that further cuts to spending would have severe consequences on healthcare, including the healthcare workforce and advance medical research.

The AAMC urged Congress and the administration to use their time constructively in finding a solution, while keeping America’s health a "top priority."
