New work hour limits contribute to the growth of nocturnist subspecialty

The ACGME’s duty hour limits are one factor making nocturnists more attractive to hospitals, according to an article from Kaiser Health News.
Noctrunists are physicians who care for patients outside of the emergency room during overnight shifts. Not only do nocturnists help fill scheduling gaps created by limiting residents’ work hours, but having experience physicians available at night when traditionally the most inexperienced trainees cared for patients improves patient safety.
