Ask the expert: Which learning activities should we develop goals and objectives for?

The ACGME requires programs to disseminate to the residents and faculty members a competency-based set of goals and objectives for each rotation. These goals should be linked to the ACGME six core competencies. Do not try to connect all six competencies to each and every goal and objective. You can link specific assignments, such as a research project, to a specific competency domain, like practice-based learning and improvement.
Develop goals and objectives for the following activities:
- Journal club
- Research projects
- Elective rotations
- M&M conferences
- Simulation labs
- Grand rounds
