Your time-off policy should spell out the basics for residents, such as the number of vacation and sick days they can take. However, there are several other circumstances you should address in the policy as well.

Include how many days off residents may take to attend specialty or other educational conferences. Specify when travel to conferences will be counted against paid time off and when it isn’t considered time off, suggests Laurel Sorensen, resident, fellow, and medical student coordinator for the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, Davis.
