Although residents see it as a time saver, copying and pasting information in electronic medical records into new section of a chart can perpetuate errors.
Physicians at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center are trying to eliminate this bad habit by offering residents incentives for writing proper notes, according to a MedCity News article.
First-year residents can earn incentives by writing four consecutive notes about a patient.
Program directors or faculty review and score the notes and give the residents feedback. The resident with the highest score receives a $25 gift certificate to a movie theater, the article explains.
