The AMA House of Delegates approved a report that says the proposed nap time for residents will hurt patient care and be difficult to implement, according to an article in AMNews.
The AMA will urge the ACGME to reject the five-hour nap period, the recommended allotment according to last year's Institute of Medicine report. However, delegates also said that the AMA should contribute to efforts to ensure duty-hour decisions and compliance monitoring remain under the ACGME's jurisdiction, not that of the Joint Commission or CMS.
