Completing the program information form (PIF) can be a time-intensive activity, but program directors and coordinators can make the task less stressful if they update the PIF after each annual program review. Although updating the PIF every year is a lot of work, it saves time in the long run because 90% of the PIF will be ready when you receive notification of your site visit date.
Treating the PIF as if it's a living document also keeps you focused on the main quality elements of your program.
Many may think updating the PIF yearly is a waste of time because the ACGME often revises the document. However, most elements, such as goals and objectives, evaluation processes, and faculty credentials will most likely remain on the PIF.
Today’s tip is from Insider’s Guide to the ACGME Site Visit, Second Edition, by Kathryn Andolsek, MD, MPH and Shepard Cohen.
