Put answers at first-year residents' fingertips

During your program’s orientation, first-year residents receive an overwhelming amount of documents, including program policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and call schedules, just to name a few. Combine this information blitz with interns’ nerves, and it’s not surprising they don’t remember everything you tell them.
That’s why many coordinators create a manual for new residents, which details the most commonly needed information, says Shari Mann, administrator of the University of Minnesota/St. John’s Hospital family medicine residency program in St. Paul. With most commonly needed information right at residents’ fingertips, they don’t have to ask you for it—or at least that’s the idea.
