If you do not already, ask new program directors to complete the program information form (PIF) as part of their internal review. Because many GMECs treat the internal review as a mini site visit, it makes sense that program directors take a stab at the PIF.
Asking new directors to fill out the PIF is a great way to identify program directors who will need some help completing the official document that will go to the ACGME. It is best to learn how to prepare a PIF during the internal review—not a few days before submitting the document to the ACGME. Filling out the PIF can be a lengthy process, so consider having the program director fill out parts covering important patient information and some of the narrative descriptions.
This week’s tip comes from The Graduate Medical Education Committee Handbook, (published by HCPro, Inc.) by Vicki Hamm and Christine Redovan, MBA.
