The program director and coordinator should carve out protected time to work on the PIF. This protected time guarantees that you have ample time to focus completely on the PIF without an interruptions or distractions. Both persons should delegate routine duties to other office staff or faculty members during this time. Residents, staff, and faculty should understand the importance of the site visit and PIF and respect the protected time.
As a courtesy, inform residents and faculty early on that the program director and coordinator will be unavailable during designated times. Provide alternative times that you will be available to assist residents or faculty.
Today’s question and answer are from Program Information Form Made Simple: A Guide to Completing the ACGME PIF, by Jeri L. Whitten, C-TAGME, published by HCPro, Inc.
