How good is the communication between the graduate medical education committee (GMEC) and program directors? The ACGME Institutional Requirements require each institution to follow guidelines:
- “Ensure that communication mechanisms exist between the GMEC and all program directors within the institution”
- “Ensure that program directors maintain effective communication mechanisms with the site director at each participating site for their respective programs to maintain proper oversight at all clinical sites”
Devise a method for the program directors who sit on the GMEC to share information with non-committee program directors and faculty. Set up an e-mail list where committee program directors can supply other members of the team with updates, new policies, and best practices.
If a program director is unable to attend a meeting, make sure the GME program administrator shares the group agenda beforehand and sends the meeting minutes via e-mail to all program directors.
Today’s tip comes from The Graduate Medical Education Committee Handbook by Vicki Hamm with Christine Redovan, MBA.
