Getting the most out of your surveys

If you’ve stayed at a bed-and-breakfast, purchased an item on Amazon, or worked for a forward-thinking organization concerned about staff satisfaction, you’ve probably had to fill out a few surveys. But you might not have stopped to think about why you are happy to fill out some surveys while others seem worthy only of the trash can.
Chances are the surveys you discard don’t offer you a meaningful way to express your thoughts and feelings about the product or service in question. They may seem more like busywork than productive tools.
