Plans to improve NHS services unveiled

As part of a £100 million plan to overhaul the UK's National Health Service (NHS) in the area of patient care, Lord Ara Darzi, leading cancer surgeon and health minister, announced plans for more infection surveillance and accessible care, according to The Guardian.
The plan calls for hospitals to screen for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus on admission and submit to hygiene inspections. Darzi's plans also call for general practitioners to extend hours and establish practices in areas lacking family doctors.
