Patients want to be more involved in their own care than in the past

The information age has given patients more access to information about healthcare, and as a result, patients want to be involved in their doctors' decisions concerning diagnoses and actions, says the American Medical News. Instead of patients taking orders and advice from their physicians, many patients wish to be in a doctor-patient partnership.

A new study out of Seattle, found that 86% of parents wanted to be included in their children's medical decisions, and another study out of Iowa reports that patients are more likely to have a good relationship with their doctor and follow advice if they agree with the doctor's philosophy and treatment methods.
