The American Medical Association has endorsed the use of implanted microchips to convey patient information, according to a Toronto Star article. The chips would be implanted under a patient's skin and contain all relevant medical data.

The AMA did sound a number of cautions about the practice. It asked that hospitals monitor security issues, measure efficacy, and study the practice further before adopting implanted microchip use, the paper reported.
