Researchers are urging physicians to use alternatives to beta-blockers for patient treatments. Newer treatments offer the same benefits with fewer side effects, according to an article in The Boston Globe.

The combination of new blood pressure medications with diuretics offers the same benefits of the beta-blockers, according to a study released this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The researchers stressed that Beta-blockers are still recommended for patients that have experienced a heart attack or heart failure.
