Thailand readies for increased competition in the medical tourism field

A credible medical tourism industry has helped put Thailand on the map as one of the world's premier destinations for 1.4 million international patients last year, says an article in The Nation, Bangkok's independant newspaper. That number is expected to hit two million this year, especially with the addition of another Joint Commission International accredited hospital, Samitivej Hospital, will join Bumrungrad in this area.
However, Thailand will have to do even more than that in the coming years if it wants to keep pace with other areas of the world, such as Singapore and the Middle East. Singapore is launching an initiative to attract one million foreign patients by 2012.
