Ask the expert: How can we reduce the number of medical staff committees?

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, July 3, 2007

Medical staffs can reduce the number and size of committees by combining them and their functions and providing good administrative support. Hospitals might also consider replacing some medical staff committees, such as infection control and utilization management, with hospitalwide committees. Instead of having several physicians involved with each medical staff committee, the hospital committee would have only one or two physicians acting as advisors.
