Ontario health organizations to become more transparent

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, June 15, 2007

Citizens of Ontario will soon be able to find information on specific doctors to help make healthcare decisions, reports The Toronto Star. The Health System Improvement Act, which was signed into law on June 4, requires any healthcare worker to report any findings against himself or herself to his or her professional college. These findings will be made public by being posted on the Internet.

Ontario officials hope this move will help modernize their health system and improve quality.

Anything that goes on a healthcare worker's record will stay there indefinitely, leaving behind the old practice of expunging records after six years, according to the article.
