Patients' safety at risk in England's National Health Service, critics claim

Though the National Health Service (NHS) in England has recorded a more than 510 million Pound surplus after being about that much in debt last year, the extra money may be putting patients in danger, according to claims detailed in the Daily Mail.

In a politically charged clash, doctors and Tory officials are lashing out at the Labour Party-controlled NHS for saving money by skimping on training for nurses. In turn, the NHS is relying on poorly trained staff, the paper says.

The Commons Public Accounts Committee said that almost half of staff employed as nurses do not have basic life support training.
