Lyme disease guidelines promulgated in Maryland have been put on hold as activists work politically to include treatment recommendations for chronic Lyme. Most medical experts, however, do not believe there are any chronic conditions associated with Lyme disease, according to the Washington Post.
The legislation would have given physicians statewide a list of recommendations for treatment. Activists, however, felt the list did not offer any treatment for chronic conditions they say are associated with Lyme. In particular, they want recommendations for long-term antibiotic use and other alternative treatments.
Critics of the group say there is no research available that shows there are long-term or chronic complications from Lyme itself, and making such recommendations would be irresponsible.
