The Beaumont Hospitals system in Michigan isamong the few systems trying two minute pre-operative briefings to increase patient safety and reduce medical error. The briefings give the surgical team ample time to take a time out and gather other information related to the case, according to a Beaumont press release.

The briefings also give team members time to ask and answer questions, and should help increase communication, according to the release. The effort is sponsored by the Michigan Health & Hospital Association's Keystone Center for Patient Safety & Quality and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
