The Food and Drug Administration has warned hospitals to check their software to make sure the early start of Daylight Saving Time does not interfere with hospital functions.

Congress approved a bill last year to start Daylight Saving Time three weeks earlier than normal, and extend it one week later. The change was aimed at conserving energy, but the change may create problems for software users. Most software now automatically updates time information based on the old Daylight Saving Time schedule.

The confusion may create confusion for appointment times, prescription services, and other time-sensitive features, according to the alert.
