CMS has released its final rule on the use of restraints and seclusion. The ruling, which will take effect on February 6, 2007, outlines new training guidelines to which medical professionals who use restraints or seclusion will have to adhere. This regulation makes looking out for patient's safety a top priority for medical facilities.

This latest Condition of Participation will let CMS monitor medical facilities' use of restraints and seclusion on patients by including more practitioners in its requirements for training.

This ruling by CMS comes after considering the thousands of public comments it received in response to the interim final rule.
