The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) seeks submissions for two new awards-the Socius Award and the Chairman's Medal-that will be presented during the eighth annual NPSF Patient Safety Congress in May in San Francisco.

The Socius Award, named for the Latin word for "partner," recognizes initiatives that successfully involve patients and families in patient safety solutions. Any individual or organization in the U.S. that has established a collaborative patient safety initiative that involves consumers, patients, and the families is eligible for the award. Consumer groups, patient and family organizations, hospitals, health centers, managed care organizations, and physician organizations are eligible for nomination.

The Chairman's Medal recognizes the outstanding achievements of emerging leaders in the patient safety field. The recipient will have put forth innovative ideas and approaches to patient safety to create positive change and measurable improvement. All healthcare organizations and leaders within the U.S. are eligible.

To nominate candidates for either award, submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay no later than March 15. For more information and the forms for submission, click here.
