Colorado state legislator Bob McCluskey is pushing legislation to require the state's hospitals report infection rates to a national risk adjustment agency. That agency would then adjust the data to give a better picture of the problem, according to an op-ed written by McCluskey in the Fort Collins Coloradoan.

The bill would require that hospitals report cardiac surgical site infections, orthopedic surgical site infections, and central line-related bloodstream infections. Other types of infections will be studied to determine whether they also should be reported.
