Sim patients help with training

Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, has begun using patient simulators for training staff. The simulators provide trainees with a realistic scenario, complete with complications and surprises, according to an article in Springfield's The Republican.

Simulators have become a popular method of providing training for healthcare workers. Baystate's training physicians said the simulators allowed them to view trainees' ability to think under stress and react to a dynamic situation.

Those physicians training with the simulator said it takes some getting used to, but overall provides a life-like experience without endangering a patient.
