Med labeling death settlement includes teaching opportunity

As part of a settlement with the family of a woman killed when given the wrong drug, Virginia Mason Medical Center has agreed to use the incident to teach staff about the dangers of mislabeling medications in the hospital setting. Mary McClinton died after she was given the wrong medication while staying at the hospital, according to an article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
The hospital settled for an undisclosed amount of money and said they would use the case as a first-hand account of what can go wrong when labeling medications. Family members quoted in the article said they were pleased the hospital would work to reduce such errors in the future.
The hospital will also give money to various charities as part of the settlement.
