The JCAHO's Joint Commission International Center on Patient Safety has been designated the World Health Organization's (WHO) first collaborative patient safety center. The move will be announced today (Aug. 24) at a press conference, according to a press release.

The center will focus on patient safety issues around the world, with an emphasis on best practices to reduce errors. The center will work with governments and non-profit organizations to disseminate information and ideas on keeping patients safe while receiving care.

The Joint Commission International Center on Patient Safety was started earlier this year by the JCAHO.
