Staff members and doctors at Nashoba Valley Medical Center (NVMC) in MA met on December 7 with state Rep. Robert Hargraves and three members of the Ayer community to form a patient safety council, according to The Public Spirit.
The council aims to identify and put in place solutions to key concerns of patients, families, doctors, staff, and legislators.
"One hundred thousand deaths occur each year based on medical errors and no patient should die," said Andrei Soran, CEO of NVMC and chairman of the new committee.
For example, the council wants patients' family members to voice concerns or identify something they believe is wrong.
The council included Hargraves in order to help legislators understand the struggle faced by hospitals and to determine the availability of government resources.
"It takes a village to have a patient safe," said Soran. "Nurses aren't the only ones; we're trying to convince the legislator it takes more."
