Many hospitals are performing a type of chest scan that give patients too much radiation at a time, reports The Washington Post.

Double CT chest scan, patients receive two imaging tests in a row, one without and one with dye in their veins. Medicare data shows that hospitals perform these double scans on 5.4% of Medicare patients receiving chest CTs. More than 600 hospitals used these double scans on at least 10% of Medicare patients who needed chest scans.
