CMS finds multiple patient safety deficiencies at Parkland Hospitals

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) found multiple patient safety deficiencies at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. The deficiencies were discovered during a recent investigation that was prompted by a news report of a knee surgery infection led to amputation and $1 million in Medicaid billings, reports the Houston Chronicle.
The January CMS inspection found the teaching hospital had no formal policy in 2008 for faculty supervision of physicians in the residency program.
