Radiation risk rises to top of patient safety concerns

A woman who receives one abdominal-pelvic CT scan has a one in 250 chance of getting cancer. This statistic is the main focus of a recent post of known blogger Robert Wachter, MD, professor and associate chairman of the department of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
Wachter reminds healthcare professionals that evidence shows that CT scans are capable of causing cancer, and many vary in the amount of radiation given off in any one scan.
A recent HealthLeaders Media article also reports on the danger, giving helpful steps toward lowering the radiation risk.
