C. diff in children on the rise

Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is on the rise in U.S. children, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center analyzed records of pediatric patients from 1997 to 2006 and found a 15% increase each year of cases among the population. Children who are infected with C. diff have higher death rates and more surgeries. Infections have been more common in the northern hemisphere, and stronger strains of the disease have been identified in recent years.
