The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association announced that it has established a companywide payment policy that prohibits reimbursement to its acute care hospitals for hospital-acquired conditions, also referred to as never events.
The move follows The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) similar policy, which does not reimburse for such events. Blue Cross and Blue Shield will not reimburse for wrong-patient, wrong-site, and wrong-procedure surgery, along with many other events CMS already denies reimbursement for.
