Q: What type of emphasis does The Joint Commission place on the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) during survey?

A: Regardless of the subject, the implementation of NPSGs is carefully scrutinized during individual patient and system tracer activities. Many of the goals are assessed through practice observation and cannot be measured through chart abstraction. That means your internal tracers should focus on the NPSGs that may be warranted to assist you in measuring compliance with these goals.
