More hospitals considering 'care of the caregiver' after medical error

Hospitals are more often considering their employed caregiver's well-being after a medical error occurs, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Increasingly hospitals are recognizing that those staff members involved in an error go through their own trauma. The National Quality Forum has a standard calling for hospitals to involve caregivers in the investigation of what went wrong when an error occurs, if they are found to have not acted in a reckless or intentional manner. This idea is part of creating a just culture, one in which staff members are encouraged to report medical errors without the fear or blame or shame.
