California hospitals report an increase in adverse events

Hospitals in California reported 1,583 serious preventable events occurring for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2009, reports the Sacramento Business Journal. This is up from 1,224 incidents hospitals reported during the year before. Hospitals in California are required to publicly report when an adverse event occurs as the result of a 2006 law. The most common event was the incidence of stage three and four pressure ulcers.
