Medical Liability and Patient Safety Reform Committee meets for first time

The initial meeting of the Subcommittee on Patient Safety and Medical Liability Reform Demonstrations was held earlier this week, reports AHA News. The subcommittee, a part of the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality, was launched in an effort to identify specific care models that reduce the likelihood of patient harm, increase communication among caregivers, and reduce medical liability insurance.
The subcommittee will award $25 million in grants to health systems that are going to test these patient safety and liability reform models. Grant applications are due by January 20, 2010.
