Renowned businessman Lee Iacocca once said, “You can use the fanciest computers to gather the numbers, but in the end, you have to set a timetable and act.” This article is dedicated to the most essential part of any data collection effort: how you use the data to support organizational improvement.
A colleague of mine from the Illinois Hospital Association, Becky Steward, once remarked to me that she liked to “make the data dance.” Dancing with the HCAHPS data is precisely what you need to do once you have mastered the basics of data collection. This article will help you learn how to hear the music, master the foundational steps, orchestrate your kick line, and be graceful.
