On September 28, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Oncology Nursing Society released a set of 31 standards that guide providers in the safe administration of chemotherapy medications. The two groups, which represent physicians and nurses who care for cancer patients, developed the standards to reduce errors and offer best practices.
Included in the standards is an understanding that using standardized practices and following set procedures will reduce the amount of chemotherapy medication-related errors. The standards can be found in an article in the September 28 Journal of Clinical Oncology.
