JAMA commentary: Patient safety priority list would help improve outcomes

A recent commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Association calls for a list of patient safety priorities, reports the Maryland Daily Record. Written by the executive directors of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics, the commentary says that although it is difficult to determine if one patient safety event is more dangerous than another, it might be best practice to do so for the sake of focusing prevention efforts. The authors suggest building an ethical framework that guides decision making as well as public participation in reducing patient safety events.
