Performance data from Illinois hospitals will be posted on a public Web site this coming fall, reports the Chicago Tribune, Although the law was passed in 2004 mandating that performance data from Illinois hospitals be made public, it has taken five years for the data to become available. Members of the public will be able to find information about healthcare-acquired infections, nurse staffing ratios, and the cost and volume of the top 30 procedures performed at hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.
Officials from the state's Department of Public Health blamed the delay on the time consuming legislative process that is necessary for rules to be changed in the state.
