The 2009 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) include many changes. Since the start of this year, The Joint Commission has made further changes, announcing that it will not release any new NPSGs for 2010 and will not score hospitals on their medication reconciliation processes for the remainder of this year. A six-week field review process of proposed NPSG changes for 2010 began May 12. Maintaining compliance with the current NPSGs can be challenging. Patricia Pejakovich, RN, BSN, MPA, CPHQ, CSHA, and WendySue Woods, RN, MHSA, CSHA, senior consultants for The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro, Inc., in Marblehead, MA, spoke about compliance trouble spots at the 3rd Annual Association for Healthcare Accreditation Professionals Conference May 14–15 in Las Vegas.
