Leaders in healthcare struggle with decision of how to reduce costs

Although U.S. leaders in industry and politics agree that the healthcare system needs a complete overhaul, how that should be done is up for debate, reports the Washington Post. The U.S. healthcare system spends more than $2.3 trillion each year and yet 1.5 million patients are harmed by medical errors, and 100,000 patients die as a result of a hospital-acquired infection in that same time span. Additionally, more than 46 million people are uninsured.
To fix this problem, the U.S. will have to find a way to cut down on wasteful tests and procedures and offer an incentive for medical facilities and providers to offer the highest quality of care—not for seeing the largest quantity of patients.
